Gl-581c é uma espécie de Superterra que apesar de estar muito mais próximo de sua fonte de energia do que a Terra está do sol, não sofre um super-aquecimento, pois o seu "sol" é muito menos potente do que o nosso - apesar de estabilidade parecida. Essa diferença faz com que a temperatura do planeta fique entre 0 e 40 graus. Condições climáticas ideais para o ser humano (para se ter uma idéia, a temperatura da Terra gira entre 88 graus negativos e 58 graus positivos). Ainda não é possível saber se existe ou não vida inteligente no Gl581c, no entanto, a possibilidade dos humanos sobreviverem lá é plausível. O problema é a distância. A nave mais rápida que existe no mundo, a sonda New Horizons, levaria 400 mil anos para percorrer esse caminho. No entanto, duvidar do desenvolvimento dessas supermáquinas seria atitude leviana. Desde sempre, uma das maiores curiosidades do ser humano é a busca por aliens ou por outra qualquer forma de vida extraterrestre. Parece que isso vai mudar.
